This week we caught up with fashion marketer + stylist, Shantia Seymour...
How long have you been blogging and what motivated you to start?
I’ve been blogging for 5 years now and the thought to start a blog came from figuring out a way to document my looks. Then I moved to London where it’s “influencer world” and it pushed me even more to become serious about it - professional shoots, pitching to brands and blogger community involvement. It’s been the best thing for my career in fashion.
What has been your biggest challenge so far?
At first, being a micro-influencer with organic followers was a bit challenging getting opportunities. I’d get as many likes on posts as the girls with over 10k followers but over the years I’ve learned to use that to my advantage and push that I get just as much traffic.
Whats a typical day like for you?
First things first, I check emails and Instagram. That’s where most of my important things are. Over the weekends are the times I usually figure out my feed layout for the week and scheduling so that my week is clear to do more important things. I’m always on the hunt for collaborations so most days I do a bit of research. I have scheduled days for shooting where I’ll shoot all my looks for the week in one day (because who has time to shoot every single day!). I do a lot of location scouting also, nomatter what city I’m in. Did I mention loads of coffee?
Finally, If you had one piece of advice to give to other aspiring influencers, what would it be?
Even if you think everyone wants to be an influencer still go for it. Remember to be authentic and unique. Everyone these days are literally copy and paste. Brand yourself in a unique way!
