This week we catch up with one of our VIP Member's, Body Confident, Danielle Gardiner...
How long have you been blogging and what motivated you to start?
So I’ve been modelling for 4 years now on and off and started to feel like there wasn’t a place for me. I didn’t feel like my body shape was being represented enough, I didn’t really find anyone like me who was a mum, struggling with body shape and confidence aswell as trying to model. So i decided to start sharing more posts about how I felt, the struggles I found in the industry with being accepted and sharing my sense of style and fashion with my followers.
The more I blogged about body confidence and insecurities; the more I heard from others who felt the same way. Over the last 4 months I’ve grown from 2000 to over 30,000 followers just by sharing honest feelings and unedited pictures. Showing people they can love the skin their in and forget societies standards.
What has been your biggest challenge so far?
With blogging and building social media content, it’s quite a struggle to find the time to maintain a constant flow. I feel like when you gain more followers, a lot more is expected of you and you have to keep up with the posting and sharing new content to keep people and brands looking at you and wanting you. More and more plus size models are coming into the industry and you need to find where you are different and stand out.
What's a typical day like for you?
I have two children so my daily routine is around them. Once they’re off to school and nursery I have time to myself. I either I am at work as a photographer or I’m modelling/ attending events. I have quite a hectic lifestyle and I’m always on the go. I have to find time to take great pictures and build social media content, as well as reviewing products I’ve been sent from brands and attending brand events for Product launches and networking. No day is the same as the last. I’m up early and in bed late to get everything I need done.
Finally, If you had one piece of advice to give to other aspiring influencers, what would it be?
You need to find what you are passionate about. Don’t just do this to keep up with a trend or think it’ll make you lots of money; because it won’t. You need to love what you’re doing and have a personal message to share. Whether it’s about great products, places to visit, where to shop or your personal life. Find what it is you want to say and what your audience want to hear. Take time for yourself and don’t get caught up in the madness of it all. You need to take care of you before you try and do anything else.
